Florida's Best Paved Trail — Done Right

The Legacy Trail is one of the most beloved rail-trails in Florida. It follows the old Seaboard Air Line Railway corridor from the Venice Train Depot north to Sarasota — 18.5 miles of smooth, flat, shaded pavement through scrubland, wetlands, and Old Florida landscapes that most tourists never see from the road. If you're looking for a Legacy Trail ebike rental in Venice FL with free delivery, you're in the right place.

Over 650,000 people ride it every year. The problem for most visitors is getting there — trailhead parking fills up fast, especially on weekends and in season. If you're staying in Venice without a car, or just don't want to deal with parking, a fat tire ebike delivered to your door changes everything. Ride straight from your hotel or Airbnb to the trail and back. No car needed — the perfect Venice Florida ebike experience.

650K
Annual visitors make the Legacy Trail one of the most-used rail-trails in all of Florida. The main trail runs 18.5 miles with connector extensions bringing the full network to 23+ miles. Our fat-tire ebikes handle every inch of it — including the gravel sections near the Venice trailhead.

On an ebike the Legacy Trail Venice to Sarasota route is genuinely effortless. The full 18.5 miles one way takes about 90 minutes at a relaxed pace. You can go further, stop more often, and arrive back without being exhausted — even in Florida heat. It's a completely different experience from a regular bike, especially for families, older riders, or anyone who hasn't cycled in a while. Pair it with a trip to the beach and you have a perfect car-free day in Venice.

The Trail from South to North

Starting from the Venice Train Depot and heading north toward Sarasota.

Mile 0 — Southern Trailhead
Venice Train Depot
The historic 1927 Venice Train Depot is the official southern start of the trail. Parking here fills by 9am on weekends. On an ebike you ride here from your hotel — no parking needed. Restrooms, water fountain, and a shaded pavilion at the start.
Restrooms Water Historic site Parking available
Mile 1.5 — Connection Point
Venetian Waterway Park Junction
The Legacy Trail connects here to the Venetian Waterway Park trail, which runs parallel to the Intracoastal Waterway. A beautiful detour for waterfront views, bird watching, and access to several beach access points. Add an extra 3 to 4 miles if you explore this branch.
Trail junction Waterway views Bird watching
Mile 5 — Rest Stop
Laurel Road Crossing
A popular rest and turnaround point for shorter riders. Shaded benches, a good view across open scrub habitat, and a road crossing where you can access Nokomis Beach about 1.5 miles to the west. This is where the trail starts to feel truly remote — less suburban, more Old Florida.
Rest benches Road access Popular turnaround
Mile 9 — Midpoint
Osprey Junction and Oscar Scherer Connector
The midpoint of the trail and arguably the best wildlife section. A connector trail leads into Oscar Scherer State Park — home to the endangered Florida Scrub-Jay, gopher tortoises, and some of the most intact scrub habitat in Sarasota County. Well worth the detour. Restrooms at the park entrance.
Restrooms State park access Florida Scrub-Jay Midpoint
Mile 13 — North Section
Clark Road Trailhead
A northern access point with parking and restrooms. The trail becomes more urban here as it enters the Sarasota suburbs, but the pavement stays smooth and wide. Local cyclists use this section heavily for commuting. You'll start seeing more road crossings and less raw scrubland.
Restrooms Northern parking Urban transition
Mile 18.5 — Northern Terminus
Sarasota Southern Gateway
The current northern end of the trail near Culverhouse Nature Park. There are plans to extend the trail further into downtown Sarasota. From here you can explore the Sarasota area or turn back south on your ebike. The return trip on a fat-tire ebike feels even easier than going — wind at your back on most days.

Why Electric

Why an Ebike is the Best Way to Ride the Legacy Trail

Regular bikes work fine. Ebikes make it unforgettable.

01

No parking drama

Venice trailhead lots fill before 9am on weekends. On an ebike delivered to your rental, you ride straight to the trail from your front door.

02

Go further, see more

Most regular bike riders turn back at mile 5. On an ebike you easily reach Osprey, Oscar Scherer, and beyond without burning out.

03

Handle the Florida heat

Start at dawn, use the assist when the sun climbs, and coast on the return. You control the effort. You don't arrive back soaked.

04

Perfect for mixed groups

Kids, seniors, and strong cyclists can all ride together. The pedal assist levels the playing field so nobody gets left behind.

05

Fat tires handle everything

Our fat-tire ebikes handle the paved trail, the gravel connector at the Venice end, and even the packed sand if you detour to the beach.

06

We come to you

We deliver anywhere in Venice and surrounding areas. No rental shop to find, no car needed. Your bike is at your door when you wake up.

Common Questions

Legacy Trail FAQ

Are ebikes allowed on the Legacy Trail?
Yes. Class 1 and Class 2 electric bikes are permitted on the Legacy Trail by Sarasota County Parks and Recreation. Our bikes fall within those classifications. Electric dirt bikes, scooters, and motorized vehicles are not permitted.
How long is the Legacy Trail and how long does it take?
The trail is 18.5 miles one way from the Venice Train Depot to the Sarasota Southern Gateway. On one of our ebikes at a comfortable pace, that's about 90 minutes one way. Most visitors do the southern section to Osprey and back — about 18 miles total — in 2.5 to 3.5 hours including stops.
Where does the Legacy Trail start in Venice?
The southern trailhead is at the Venice Train Depot, located at 303 E Venice Ave, Venice, FL 34285. It's a historic 1927 train station with restrooms, water, and limited parking. We can deliver your ebike directly to the depot area, or to your hotel or Airbnb so you can ride there.
Is the Legacy Trail paved the whole way?
Yes, the full 18.5 miles is paved asphalt. There is a short gravel section near the Venice trailhead where the trail connects to surrounding paths — our fat-tire ebikes handle this easily. The trail is flat the entire length with no significant elevation changes.
Can you access the beach from the Legacy Trail?
Yes. The Venetian Waterway Park trail branches off near the start of the Legacy Trail and provides access to several Intracoastal-side parks. You can also ride off the trail at various road crossings and reach Nokomis Beach, Casey Key, and other Gulf Coast beach access points within a mile or two of the trail.
Do you deliver to the Legacy Trail trailhead area?
We deliver anywhere in Venice and the surrounding area including hotels, Airbnbs, and vacation rentals. We can coordinate delivery so your bike is ready at your accommodation in time for an early start. Just book online and note your address — we'll sort out the timing with you directly.
What is the speed limit on the Legacy Trail?
The speed limit is 15 mph on the full Legacy Trail, enforced by Sarasota County Rangers. Our ebikes are set up to keep you within a safe and legal range. The trail is shared with pedestrians and regular cyclists so staying under 15 mph is both a legal requirement and good trail etiquette.
Is Venice Florida good for cycling?
Venice is one of the best cycling cities in Southwest Florida. The Legacy Trail, the Venetian Waterway Park trail, and the network of bike-friendly roads connecting to the beaches make it genuinely outstanding for cyclists of all levels. The terrain is completely flat, the weather is excellent from October through April, and the scenery — beaches, wetlands, historic downtown — is hard to beat anywhere in the state.
How does the ebike delivery work for the Legacy Trail?
It's simple. You book online, give us your hotel or Airbnb address in Venice, and we coordinate a delivery time with you. We bring the bike to your door, show you how everything works — pedal assist, throttle, brakes, lock — which takes about 5 minutes, and you're off. When you're done, we pick it up from wherever you're staying. No shop visit, no car required, no fuss.
